It’s been 400 years since herring have been able to raise their families in the Bronx River. That was because of a dam dutch settlers built. But as of today the herring can come back. That’s because a new fish ladder over an historic Dutch dam to calm waters fit for breeding. Cassandra Basler reports.
It’s too cold in the winter, too hot in the summer, but spring break may possibly be the worst time in New York City…because it’s overrun with Midwestern tourists. Cassandra Basler remembers being one of those obnoxious middle school students racing her best friend, Erin, up the city sidewalks.
New Yorkers have the longest work week… because they have the longest commutes. On top of that… subway fares increased last week. Cassandra Basler spoke to subway riders in the outer Bronx. There… lower-income workers say service isn’t increasing…as fast as the fares.
Since the city and state started to crack down on landlords who harass tenants in rent stabilized units, advocates for rent regulation feel the momentum has moved in their favor. They’ve decided to go to Albany to try for more tenant-friendly legislation. But researchers disagree how rent regulation laws should work in the future.
