New York’s measles outbreak continues to spread across the state. Lawmakers and health officials are urging residents across Westchester and Rockland counties to get their vaccinations. Free clinics will be held today in both counties.
In Brooklyn, a Yiddish language newspaper published an editorial condemning anti-vaxxers. Orthodox Jewish communities in the borough have been hit hard by the measles outbreak due to low vaccination rates. The Williamsburg-based paper Der Yid took the rare step of translating the editorial into English. It called people who don’t vaccinate their children “senseless, heartless, Torah-less and reckless.”
We’ll have more on the history of measles in New York later in the show.
The New York Mets will take on the Atlanta Braves later today at SunTrust Park. The Brooklyn Nets are also back in the NBA playoffs and will be kicking off the tournament tomorrow.
On the subway lines: Strap-hangers may experience some delays this afternoon on E, F, M and R trains in both directions. This follows signal repairs near 36th Street in Queens.
